Japanese Abacus (Soroban)

In this exciting class, teens learn a system of arithmetic computation that uses an ancient calculating instrument known as an “abacus”. The Japanese Abacus (Nippon Soroban) has rows of large beads that students manipulate to solve mathematical problems. It is different from the Chinese and western abaci in configuration and use.

Instructor

Kanae Varga Sensei has practiced Japanese abacus since the age of seven. She loves teaching young people about Japanese culture and has a tremendous ability to encourage young adults, who find her classes both interesting and fun!

Fees

Both current Seichou students and non-Seichou Students pay a fee for attending one or two lessons a week.

Materials & Supplies

All students must purchase a Japanese abacus for $40, which can be purchased at the dojo. Class size is limited to 10 students.

Class Schedule

Classes meet twice a week, on Monday and Saturdays. You may choose either one or two lessons per week.

Age 4 & 5- year olds: Monday from 4:30pm to 5:15pm
6 and Older: Saturday from 10:00am to 10:45am
